Year in review

Ok so we moved in last year in October (10/03/2005) since October is not over yet I am still leagle to do a year in review post. So here is the nice and not so nice list of what has happened to the 1921 foursquare. Lets begin..

When we first signed up for this assignment, I mean bought this place we thought it would take a couple (couple mind you) years to get the things we wanted done to the place to make it just what we wanted. Ok so one year in and here is how things are going.

The List:
  • Water Main replaced
  • Main Floors sanded
  • Master Bedroom Painted
  • Rewired
  • AC installed
  • New Roof over front
  • Bathroom started
  • Not quite as far as we thought but we're working on it.

    Mondy night what to do

    http://www.footefamily.net/house/upload/2006/10/pict0006-thumb.jpg

Well last night since it was Monday and 11pm and snowing what beter time to take apart the boiler.

(ok finaly got some pictures up)

Since the boiler was leeking I decided I should find out exactly where so we could find out if its under warenty or just how far this project will need to go. So after my shower I began taking out the screws and removing cover pieces. Once the jacket was loose the leak was fairly easy to find. (I'll post pictures later) The leak was infact on the castiron boiler portion of the unit - left rear as you are looking at the unit from the front. I was surpprised this unit is a fairly simple device. Water goes in gets heated in this large castiron unit then circulated out through all the house. After the leak was located I quickly stuck things back together to get to bed... Fun night :-)

The part that is leaking is the lower left inbetwen two sections of the boiler piece. This shot is looking top down with the lid removed.

    Back to work

Last week was homecoming for IUP so I took it easy and did some cleaning and help around the house before we went to the parade and football game.

So this weekend back to work. Dispite not having alot to show for my work to day I still feel like I got alot acomplished. And something always comes up .. like the boiler starting to drip water from somewhere. (I'm still looking into this one) Will post later on the findings.

Today I got the lower pannel of drywall on two wall sections today. This was fairly time consuming as both these walls were the window walls. The room is actully starting to look like a room now. This is scarry.

I also removed three storm window (if you can call them that) remains. Two were removed from the bathroom and one from the rear window of the MBR. I am planning on placing an order for 4 storm windows this Monday so I needed acurate measurements for these. Once I get the storms in place I will be free to rebuild the sashes on the windows them selves. I guess I could put plywood in but that is not that great a solution :-)

    walls & inch worms

I had hoped to get more of the walls covered with drywall than I did, but things happen. I got a good start anyway and know my plan of attack for future drywall days. Remember this is my first drywall experience. :-)

I now have 3 pieces of drywall up which covers the top portion of two wall areas. This was fairly time consuming due to the window cut outs and only having my two hands to hold up the pieces of drywall and the drill. I think the rest will go quicker once I get the 2x4 pieces planed down just a bit where the wall was out of plumb.

Oh yea we also have some freeky inchworm problem ... we had tons of tiny inchworms on the cieling in the back room. It took a while but we put together that these inchworms are tied to a moth issue that we had before the AC was finished and we did not shut the back door all the way.. We are hoping that we have taken care of most of this issue.
